Sand Hills I
This image is centered on the Nebraska Sand Hills themselves. North is in the upper-left of the image. Snow is covering the landscape in the right-side of the image. There are many freshwater and alkaline lakes located throughout the image. Nearly at the center of the image, some white spots can be seen. These are lakes that have snow lying on top of their ice covering. The dark spots seen on the right-side of the image are lakes that are not ice-covered, and thus the snow melted on contact with the water. The stabilized dunes that are so prevalent in the Sand Hills are easily seen. They tend to lie in a line that runs from the center toward the upper-right portion of the image. The Niobrara River can also be seen, it lies in the upper-left portion of the image.
