Loup River System

This image is centered on the central portion of Nebraska. North is to the upper-left corner of the image. The lateness of the year means that there is no crops to be seen, although bare fields are evident throughout the image. Also present are several reservoirs and rivers. Calamus Reservoir is the dark, elongated feature near the upper-left corner. It impounds the Calamus River which can be seen flowing left to right. Numerous other rivers of the Loup River System are clearly visible. This river system drains a very substantial part of the Sand Hills. The light blue feature that can be seen to the right and up from the image center is known as Sherman Reservoir. Just below Lexington is the Platte River and then Johnson Lake.
