"Have you seen the New Castle in Nebraska?" An auspicious home was built by Gustovus Smith in 1856 across the Missouri in the Territory of Nebraska. Later even a larger "castle" was built. The town of Newcastle, only 3 miles from the Missouri, had a good landing. The "Eagle" ferried people across the river from South Dakota.
